Pianists of all levels of advancement, even those just starting out, have a chance to receive input from some of the top piano teachers and pianists in the world! Typically, these opportunities are reserved for only a handful of elite, advanced pianists.
Pianists from remote areas all over the world, not just major cities, may participate.
Pianists of all ages and levels of advancement have the opportunity to receive invaluable input by an expert on their playing and the development of their technic. It is never too early to discover important principles of technic and artistry; the tools of virtuosity should be developed starting at the very first lesson. The KT&T category is evaluated by experts in the field of ergonomic motion and healthy piano technic who offer very specific and detailed suggestions on how the entrant would be able to improve their technic, eliminate tension, achieve greater ease, brilliance, and facility at the piano. Typically an assessment like this might cost thousands of dollars in travel expenses and hundreds for one lesson.
The Keyboard Theory and Technic category's sequencing of skills is designed using important principles of the Taubman Approach to piano playing, "a groundbreaking analysis of the mostly invisible motions that function underneath a virtuoso technique." The sequencing of the KT&T category is not based upon age, amount of study, or solely on specific theory requirements, but rather upon development of the basic components of a coordinate technic. The KT&T sequencing affords pianists insight into the basic principles of tension-free playing and a flexible platform which can be customized for developing pianists at different stages of development. The entrant chooses their Skills Set each year. and may choose to repeat a specific Skills Set in subsequent years, or even return to a previous level. This reflects and supports a natural and healthy development of technic.
